Are you a Type A personality? If you crave success and you will do anything to win at life, chances are, yes. As the driven, ruthless, superstar that you are, sometimes you need to reenact your natural impulse to compete. Instead of trying to dominate the world in a Dr. Evil-esque plot, how about rounding up your best friends on the weekend to compete in a summer team sport. Sure, soccer, baseball, and basketball are cool, but these team sports will really let your competitive edge shine:
Although racing for a cause can make you feel fluffier than a basket of kittens, this weekend activity actually lets you compete on two levels. First, you can compete to see how much money you can raise for a cause. C’mon, for once use your cutthroat ways to do good in the world. If you are new to racing for a cause, definitely look into Team in Training. Team in Training is the official racing organization for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and has a large and supportive community of racers. Second, you can compete on race day. Remember, the only thing better than winning is winning twice.
Happy Hour is so 2006. Dodgeball, kickball, and softball leagues have become the new de rigueur office bonding activity. Organizations like the World Dodgeball Society have been formed to organize leagues and formalize rules as new teams form around the country. What better way to assert your office dominance than to peg Becky in accounting with a dodgeball?
Channel your inner John McEnroe by grabbing a teammate and challenging a second team to a game of doubles tennis. Doubles tennis is all about strategy, so make sure that your chosen teammate is as diabolical as you are.
Wallball is one of our favorite ways to blow off steam here at DailyBurn HQ. Wallball is popular in the city, which has no shortage of concrete walls and building sides. Wallball is the best sport to play against someone when you have a real score to settle. Don’t try go at it when you are having a conflict, instead, let the ball decide the winner.
Type A people love the daily grind of the rat race. That translates well into a love of adventure racing. If crawling through a mud pit covered in barbed wire and jumping over a burning coal pit isn’t like climbing the corporate ladder, we don’t now what is. Adventure races like the Warrior Dash, the Tough Mudder, and the Spartan Race are becoming big business in the outdoor events industry. Even better, most of the race organizations encourage dressing up as warriors and eating turkey legs as a post-race snack. So gather up a team full of folks and get out to your nearest adventure race.
But seriously, Type A people do need a constructive physical outlet to express their competitive dominance tendencies. Racing and team sports can even ignite the fire within typically easygoing Type B people to. Do you love to get competitive? Tell us about it.
