It’s the Friday before July 4th weekend, and we have one thing on our minds, relaxing in the sun this weekend. If you’re like us, you’re probably skipping around the office singing along to “I’m on a Boat” by The Lonely Island. Getting out on the water is a great way to have fun and burn some calories, especially if you are out kayaking, water skiing, or jumping off the deck for a swim. No matter how you spend your holiday on the water, make sure to pack these essentials for a healthy and safe holiday weekend.
High SPF water resistant sunscreen is essential. The US Environmental Protection Agency notes that according to the FDA, “water resistant” sunscreens must maintain their SPF after 40 minutes of water immersion, while “very water resistant” sunscreens must maintain their SPF after 80 minutes of water immersion.
Water bottles are great, but they can be cumbersome to carry around. Camelpak makes a carrying water easy by offering packs in various sizes that can be carried on your back. Ideal for kayaking and canoeing, you don’t even have to reach for the water because of the handy straw that wraps over your shoulder.
If your going to be out all day, sunscreen won’t cut it when it comes to sensitive areas like the tops of your ears, scalp, and the back of your neck. Throw on a hat just be careful.
First aid is probably the last thing on your mind this weekend, but you never know what could happen. Have one handy just in case you sip on a rock, step on some glass, or accidentally get too close to a sparkler.
Fruit, nuts, trail mix, wraps, and sliced veggies travel well in a small cooler. Even though it’s a holiday weekend, don’t get too lax on your nutrition plan. Keep it healthy.
Have a save and fun holiday weekend everyone! What are your outdoor essentials? Share them here!
